But two is my limit for viewing the comments of a blog entry. The usual pattern is that the obvious choice (comments) calls for javascript to be running. Then a quick scan to find a link to an archive. When that link boomerangs me right back where I started, I move on to better things....

So well-written JavaScript comments links should degrade gracefully into HTML links, or remove the link entirely if JavaScript isn't there. I confess that I've got to re-examine my Archives page, which doesn't work without JavaScript (it's an easy fix, though).
Honestly, while I want to make my blog accessible to those who can't run scripts (visually impaired users, for example), I can't find much sympathy for sophisticated users who turn it off. If you're using a browser other than WinIE, it's harmless. If you're using WinIE, then you have bigger problems than JavaScript.
Comment by: Michael August 26,2003As I figure it, it falls under accessibility. That's reason enough, innit it?
Comment by: Danil August 26,2003Not necessarily. If accessibility is covered by "well formed RSS feed", then America's Last, Best Hope Against ECMAScript has no argument.
Also, there are far fewer elements to consider for an accessible site (like "length of the viewing window" or "color blending"). For instance, Binkley's rolling background color blog makes me want to puke, but an accessible user would have to make that decision solely on the content.
