It seemed pretty clear to me that Hollander was channeling Malkovich's Valmont. A good choice, I think.
Davy Jones and his lot - oh did that just not work at all. Just think of all the action figures it will sell! ick.
Depp didn't quite manage to draw from the same well as last time, did he? Maybe it's the writing, but Sparrow's motives had a lot more depth to the last time.

Too much of the clever, I think. Elizabeth isn't much of a character; or at least her character hasn't had a consistent direction, but her one shining point is being smarter than everyone. Other people being smart for plot convenience really takes away from that.
Though writers should be forced to walk the plank for the crimes committed against the characters of Pintel and Righetti.
If you are going to play Liar's Dice with your soul on the line, wouldn't you rather be playing against Dewmi Moore?
