About Me

My name is Greg Morrow.

I'm a physicist programmer RPGer SF comic book geek.

My interests include evolutionary biology, paleozoology, constitutional law, linguistics, usability, pop culture, et al. I read Supreme Court decisions for fun. I went to the trouble of tracking down and reading Graham Budd's journal article on Kerygmachela kierkegaardi because of the critter's evident anomalocarid affinities. I have been known to commit acts of haiku.

I love a good, thought-provoking argument. I'm much more interested in improving my understanding of a subject than winning.

I'm a liberal. I live in Houston, Texas. I want to leave. Why? Because the people in this city think "The Houston Texans" is a good name for a football team and the justice system thinks that a women who drowned her five children to save them from Satan is sane and therefore deserves the death penalty.

I'm cynical, optimistic, and generally happy. I make friends easily, but I remain single; the latter shocks no one.

I was raised Catholic, but was cured of it by the time I reached high school (Elizabethtown (KY) High School, class of '85). I graduated from Notre Dame University ('89), then got my MS ('93) and PhD ('97) from Rice University. My thesis was a measurement of the photon structure function at a fairly low root-s. If you don't understand what that means, it's pretty likely you wouldn't care after I explained it. Since then I've been doing pipeline simulation software, which is about as interesting as it sounds. I seem to be pretty good at it, though. You can imagine my joy.

The greatest comic strip of all time is Pogo, by Walt Kelly. My motto comes from that strip: "Don't take life so seriously, son. It ain't nohow permanent."

Dr. Elmo, my e-mail address & online handle, is a legacy of my days on Usenet. There is a story, but it involves funny voices, so I won't recount it here. Feel free to use my actual name when talking to or about me. By which, I mean, use my actual name when talking to or about me.
