Dear Senator Obama

A note to Senator Obama: Serve a term as Illinois governor before you even consider running for President, OK?

This country has not elected a sitting senator to the White House in 48 years, and JFK was in his second term while you will not have completed your first term. You have to go back another 40 years to find another example--Warren G. Harding, just finishing his first term. And I assume that you would not pick Warren G. Harding as your presidential role model.

Every other election in the last hundred years, the White House has gone to a cabinet secretary (2), a governor (6), a general (1), a vice president (2), or an incumbent president (12).

Do yourself, your party, and your country a favor: Go home, spend a term in the Illinois Executive Mansion, get seasoned, and win the presidency from a position of strength.

Yeah, no shit.

What scares me:

I missed Obama's speech at the convention, but I heard a lot of reactions to it, and all I could think was "yeah, I felt that way about Cuomo in 1984." I really don't want Obama to be a flash in the pan.

I'm very surprised he's thinking 2008 for a Presidential run. Only thing I can come up with is that Warner dropping out opens up the field for a strong "I'm not Hillary" candidate, which he thinks his name recognation could make him.

Me, I had him pencilled in as the Dem's VP candidate in 2008, and running for President in either 2012 or 2016 depending on whether his ticket won in 2008.

Maybe he's setting himself up for VP.
