So how did it go?

Record attendance. We liked our special guests (Steve Jackson and Steve Long) and they liked us, so that's good. Our showcase events seemed to go well. There was resurgent interest in several of the miniature events. However, Hackmaster seems to be fading quickly.

I run an event with my partner Jason, and so we had a bit of a crisis when he came up sick and unable to fly 2000 miles to the con to stand on his feet for 18 hours and talk himself hoarse (which, y'know, is a decision I'm OK with), but I have a lot of friends and deep talent pool to draw on, so we were able to get substitute co-GMs, Angelo and Andy, who really did a great job and saved my ass.

I was unable to attend at all this year.

Why do you say Hackmaster is fading? Lack of attendance at the events, eye-rolling at the mere mention of it, or something else?

Lack of attendance at the tournament. We've never had any events other than the tournaments (to the best of my recollection), and that's down to one table.

This was my first OwlCon -- my first gaming con of any sort -- and I had a terrific time. Major props to the OwlCon organizers!

Did you take pictures of your Master Maze event this year? I always enjoy them and your recap of the event. What was the party theme this year?

Yes; I need to upload them, but they'll be up eventually.

The party theme was element--there were four parties, each of a particular type of genasi.
