Frankensota

So Al Franken is running for Senate in Minnesota.

I love his personal story, and especially that of his wife, Franny, whose family was absolutely dependent on welfare. Her family, as a consequence of the support of their government, produced six valuable members of society. As Al says, government is supposed to have our backs.

Al's campaign will be something of a test, because he is a prominent voice for the liberal-progressive wing of the Democratic Party, a wing that has had to struggle to retain influence since Bill Clinton's DLC-dominated election, but a wing that I feel most strongly aligned with.

I think Bill Clinton was a great President--but I disagreed with a lot he did, a lot of the compromises he had to make in order to govern at all.

With a man like Al Franken in the Senate, a Democratic President will find it much easier to enact policies that I approve of, and that I think most Americans approve of--at least according to the polls.

Anyway, the link's to Al's video statement about his candidacy, and I think it's very effective, but then I'm predisposed to him anyway.
