IMC: PC Romances

This one is inspired by this entry at Tragic Glass. A public primer on some of the NPC romances is already on the site. There are possible spoilers in the extended entry, so read with care.

PCs

Aisling: Not entirely human, and uninterested in the affections of Jovian.

Brennan: Brennan has taken us (and, I think himself) a little by surprise with his sudden affection for Cambina. It’s nice to see an incipient romance that crosses the Amberside-Chaosside boundary, since I think there’s a rough time ahead in which the two groups may turn out to be less than friendly.

Brita: Some comments by her player led me to leave her off the initial romance map, but she seems to be quite intrigued by Ambrose. I don’t know where that’s going just yet, but I’m happy to play along.

Celina: Ready to go topside soon and find out about men. And some of them are quite ready to find out about her!

Conner: Firmly attached to Thalia. The only questions are, was she really sleeping with Demond Harga’rel, and was she behind his murder? A ‘yes’ to either one would suck for Conner.

Folly: Charter member of the pentacle romance club. Caught on the one side between Martin and Random, and on the other between Martin and Paige, her romantic life is complex and likely to preoccupy her for a long time.

Jerod: Due to be reunited with his lady-love Carina at long last. Jerod is probably the character whose romantic life has the fewest stormclouds on the horizon, now that the primary objection to a liaison with Carina is no longer significant.

Jovian: His romantic luck can best be summed up by noting that he managed to piss off every woman other than Fiona that he danced with at the masquerade. Obviously in love with Aisling, even though Aisling has made it clear that nothing is likely to come of it. Some players suggest he’s a good match for Paige, but I don’t think either his player or Paige’s is in on that plan.

Lilly: A virgin ripe for the plucking by someone, most likely Paige. What she’ll do with her heart isn’t clear yet.

Marius: There’s a broken heart in his background somewhere. He’s … something … with Paige, although it’s not clear exactly what that something is.

Ossian: Has had a number of quiet liaisons during the Regency, although none of them seem to have come to anything. The GMs have plans in this direction, though.

Paige: The big kahuna of romance and sex in House of Cards. She’s recovering from a disastrous breakup with Martin and the shock of realizing Folly’s in love with her ex, pregnant from an afternoon delight with Daeon, and trying to deal with the remnants of her romances with Alan LeClaire and Admiral (now Lord) Worth. And slightly infatuated with Ambrose. I don’t think there’s any room on her plate for Jovian, much less anybody else. But she’s surprised me before …

Reid: To date, Reid has shown no interest in romance. There’s an NPC coming around that might tickle his fancy, though.

Robin: The Robin-Vere romance has been one of the biggest surprises of the campaign. It’s so wrong and yet so right.

Solange: Solange has spent the Regency being a Good Girl. I have some ideas for her, depending on what she does next.

Vere: I knew he was going to fall in love as soon as he made that oath. And I didn’t even have to do anything!

NPCs (Youngers and Selected Elders)

Ambrose: He wasn’t expected to be on the romance map, but he seems to have found his way there. He isn’t saying who he’s interested in.

Cambina: Suddenly caught up in a surprising romance with Brennan. What Brennan doesn’t know about his rivals won’t hurt him.

Corwin: Now a king in his own right, he probably needs to consider marriage and a spare (to go with possible heir Merlin).

Daeon: Fertility god. ‘Nuff said.

Dara: Psycho and inhuman, but is she really over Corwin yet?

Fiona: She does have her eye on someone, but I’m not saying who. It will be a suck day for that person if Julian ever figures it out, though.

Gerard: Everybody says Random is the only happily married elder, but most of them don’t know about Gerard and Corvis.

Julian: Despite the large number of kids he’s fathered, seems to do pretty badly in the romance department. Jovian’s mother is the only relationship that seems to have worked out at all for him.

Lucas: Apparently happily married to Solace, keeps Silken in good style at Red Mill, and heaven knows how many virgins he’s despoiled, but the GMs sure aren’t keeping track.

Martin: Would be happier if the love of his life weren’t sleeping with his ex and hadn’t been in love with his father, and probably would have been happier before that if said ex hadn’t been in love with the guy who tried to sacrifice him on the Pattern. Also has several other quiet liaisons, including his mistress at Red Mill. But, like a Timex watch, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Meanwhile, as heir presumptive of Amber, has attracted several marriage offers already, including Valeria’s.

Merlin: Thinks girls are icky. We’re waiting for someone to disabuse him of that notion.

Random: Seems to be in love with Vialle. Seems to be in love with Folly. Not sure he knows about Martin and Vialle. Pretty sure he doesn’t know about Martin and Folly—yet.

Vialle: Some people are still trying to figure out what the deal is with her and Martin. Some people are trying to figure out what the deal is with her and Random. We’re not saying.

Strictly speaking, what Brennan doesn't know won't hurt them.

Fiona: She does have her eye on someone, but I'm not saying who. It will be a suck day for that person if Julian ever figures it out, though.

Cruel money is on Jovian.

I don't think there's anyone involved in that one who isn't surprised. I know I as a player am. I know precisely what it was that made me realize what was going to happen, and that there wasn't any point in trying to stop it-- Brennan wouldn't ring true any more.

Which is bizarre, since my characters are usually well-behaved, and a romance was so far from the original concept of the character as to be laughable. Bizarre enough that it weirded me out for a while-- my characters normally just don't do that, nor anywhere near as insistently.

Brennan's a bit surprised, too.

Well, Jerod thinks these two had better get stuff figured out. Because so far Jerod knows about Folly - Martin, Martin - Paige, Folly - Paige, Random - Vialle, Martin - Vialle. And once he figures out about Folly - Random, at that point its time for all four main characters to know...:) (Jerod's got his reasons)
