The Cabra Light

posted by Ginger at 10:55 PM, October 11, 2003 | Filed under : Traveller's Guide to Amber | Comments and Followups

My father was the Keeper of the Cabra Light;
He married a mermaid one fine night.
From that union, there came three:
Two were fishes, and the other was me.

— a traditional tune Martin sings on occasion.

While perusing a catalogue of lighthouse kitsch, I found the perfect image for the lighthouse at Cabra. I know it’s not canonical (Cabra’s really supposed to be on an island), but I thought it was perfect anyway.

The lighthouse pictured is La Jument, off the coast of France.

We're not told how big Cabra is, are we? It could be Cabra at a high spring tide and a heavy storm surge.

La Jumet, pictured there, is on land. Most of the time.

That is a wonderful Cabra.
