Memorial Thread - Order of Business

posted by Ginger at 11:17 PM, August 20, 2005 | Filed under : Netiquette & Play Procedures , Schedule | Comments and Followups

As seen on the OOC list, recorded here for later reference.

We’ve been thinking about how to run this memorial, and we think we’ve got a pretty good model.

We’re trying to run the memorial in a way that we’ll get through in a reasonable amount of time (based on feedback from previous large-PC gatherings), so please make every effort not to block others. This model should let us give everyone a moment to share the spotlight without dragging the funeral into Q2 2006.

Julian’s first post, after we get back, will be an example of how the Ranger funerals work. You can use this as a model. Normally, the Ranger Funeral we’re doing has a body, but Adonis inconveniently didn’t leave one. The large rock that we mention below will be taking the place of the body and/or grave.

If you have any questions about how to this should work, please ask. Feel free to ask while we’re in Santa Fe (in fact, we encourage it). That way we can address the question when we get back.

It is a memorial, so expect it mostly to be speeches and not dialogs. NPCs are willing to talk after the service, but expect that they’ll be unwilling to do so during it.

The order of business is going to be:

- Random speaks [this posting round]

- PCs react [next week]

- Julian and his children (and possibly Vere) move a large stone into place as the base for the cairn. When team Julian is done, Julian will tell a one- or two-sentence story about Adonis, say, “let that memory lighten grief,” and pick up a small stone to add to the cairn. Jovian will do the same. [next posting round, after Santa Fe]

- PCs begin to do the same, starting with Robin and Vere.

- There’s no order of precedence (that’s a Ranger thing). Don’t wait or worry about when you “should” go. After Julian’s family and before Random is OK. If you want to go with an NPC, tell us so we don’t write them without you.

- People who didn’t know Adonis will just add a stone.

- We’ll probably take two posting rounds for NPCs to tell stories and add stones, to be sure all the PCs at least get a chance to add a stone.

- Random will be the last to add a stone. Then Julian will close out with a few words of his own and the funeral will be over.

Normally Julian would handle first and last stone himself and handle all the speechifying. This is a family funeral, though, and Random is head of house.

After the memorial, most NPCs will be returning to the castle. Dinners will be had, meetings can be taken, people can be talked to. Caine will go down first, since he’s already there, talking to Meg in the future.
