Offlist Quotes

posted by Ginger at 06:16 PM, December 26, 2002 | Filed under : Quotes | Comments and Followups

These are some quotes from offlist threads that have particularly amused and/or enlightened the GMs. I don’t think they give too much away, but the spoiler-sensitive may want to abstain from reading the full entry.

Insults in the House of Oberon (Chaos Branch)

Aisling: You are your mother’s son.

Merlin: And you are your father’s daughter.

Insults in the House of Oberon (Arden Branch)

Player who shall remain nameless: It probably wouldn’t do to kill the lot of [the firelillies], only to find out that [sie]’d killed Daeon, too. Julian would be less than amused, I’m sure. (Although really, with the number of descendants he’s got, you’d think he wouldn’t miss the weird one.)

GM: Which one would that be? :)

A wise decision

Novak: Just keeping up with the paranoia.

You’re always more quotable in French. Just ask Flora.

Bleys (on his first sight of the now busted Pattern under Castle Amber): Merde.

Karen summarizes the campaign in one sentence

Folly: Well, when you’re Fate’s bitch, you learn to roll with it, I guess.

Is it a day of the week ending in Y?

Player who shall remain nameless: The eyebrows say it all— is Random planning something stupid?

The smartest NPC in the game

Wrack: I try to stay clear of succession politics; I expect to live longer that way.

Ambition, thy name is …

Vialle: The sons of Oberon are strong. You know that. Sometimes that strength is good; sometimes that strength is terrible. Right now, that strength must be turned to saving Amber. What I might want—which was never of any moment under Eric, nor during the Regency—simply isn’t a question until after we have put Amber more to rights. Then I will be more able to have things as I desire them. I can wait for that.

Speed is good, but technique is better

Player 1: 3 days! I don’t think anyone else has caught up to us! We’re ahead!!! :)

Player 2: Behold the power of glossing. ;)

Proving that you’re closely related to Bleys.

Brennan: I can’t go around in mortal danger of saying something stupid at the worst possible time and place. The embarassment to the family would be profound.

Watching your language is important in this campaign

Brennan: Well fuck me.

Bleys: Be careful which of your aunts and cousins you say that around, nephew.

Don’t piss off the friendly elder

Gerard: Ye dinna understand. I am a Prince of Amber, I have walked the Great Pattern in the chamber beneath this castle and the winds of all the seas of Shadow have blown on the sails of my ships. Ye hae seen the portrait of my brother Benedict in the hall. Twenty centuries has he if he has a one, and he’s no withered elder, but a man in his prime. And I shall live so long as he, save that mischance or murder take me first.

Yet ye know we are no gods, no matter what the folk of the Isles believe. We are men; strange and different to those around us, but men nonetheless. Always hae I lived with the knowledge that yer mother’s bloom would fade and wither while I remained as I am. I hae been as good a husband to her as I know how to be, which is rare enow among my brothers; I hae been a sire to thee and thy sister, which is more than Martin can say for his father, or Paige for hers, or Ossian or Folly o’ theirs.

To go to her now, like this, would be no kindness to yer mother. She doesna need a cripple for a lord; she needs her lord hale and well, and that I may not be so long as she lives. Tell me what that spider-bitch who serves yer mother would make of me now, and then tell me what sort o’ husband I would be to return to her as I am. And when ye hae loved a woman and wed her and sired a son on her and raised him to manhood, then ye may sit in judgement on my manner with yer mother, not until!

Gerard is not optimistic about getting his legs fixed

Gerard (discussing how long it will take with Vere): It’s a good thing we’ll both live forever, son.
