Comics Shopping

by Greg

Down here, Patrick asks:

Now that the 1st issue of Seaguy is on the shelves, what do the Curmudgeons think about it?

I would guess that the majority of us aren't every-Wednesday-shoppers any more (if we ever were).

Myself, I usually hit the store in the Thursday-Sunday range, and skip about one week in three. My primary requirement for a comic store is they have a comprehensive ordering and pull system for regulars, so I don't need to go every Wednesday.

If I go this week, it'll be Saturday, but I'm preparing for a trip, so I may not get Seaguy until I get back.

I admit that I am something of a "Wednesday evening browser" myself. I pick up few titles in any given month but I am not above checking other comics out.

I am still interested in your opinion, in the event you pick up a copy of Seaguy.

Still a Wednesday afternoon shopper myself. Except when Diamond screws up or the UPS truck breaks down or whatever and I have to wait until Thursday.

I probably won't read Seaguy #1 until mid-June.

I buy about 10% of my comics on Wednesdays. The bulk of my comics shopping is by mail; I get monthly packages from the store in Chapel Hill which I helped run for most of the 1980s. The comics I pick up off the rack are the ones that I can't decide merely from Previews that I want to commit to getting. Thus, I am most likely to be instantly gratified on the comics about which I am most ambivalent and must defer gratification on the ones I most desire.
