I thought it might be appropriate (i.e., I could get away with) posting a blurb about the gaming convention Owlcon, which is coming up February 10th-12th at Rice University here in Houston, because of its strong connection to Curmudgeons.
Owlcon is the premier gaming con in Houston. We have a wide variety of RPGs, miniature games, board & card games, RPGA, LARPs, and more.
I'm on the con-com; I'm also co-running a D&D tournament. Rick Jones (who writes for White Wolf as well as us) is running Mutants & Masterminds. Chris Maka's boss is our special guest star. And Jess Nevins will be attending (well, he told me he was coming a couple of months ago). If there are such things as Curmudgeons groupies--and please do NOT tell me if there are--this is your best opportunity to stalk so many of us in one place.
We've also got a number of big-deal events this year.
Steve Jackson of Steve Jackson Games will be our special guest star on Saturday. We don't yet know what he'll be doing, besides being Steve Jackson, but there will be talking and previewing and playtesting all day.
Red Bull is sponsoring a Halo 2 team deathmatch championship Friday night (and will also be supplying the overnight LARPs). There's a pretty spiffy prize for the winning Rice team, too.
Games Workshop is launching their Texas Championship for store leagues with big events at Owlcon.
Houston's sanctioned Hackmaster tournament is at Owlcon for the second year.
We've also got at least one RPGA premiere plus a Living City event, and about a hundred other events, all special in their own way.
C'mon over! Pre-registration ends February 3rd, and good events are already filling up!
