Rough Estimates of Lost Girls Take

by Greg

40,000 in three printings times $75 retail price means gross sales on Lost Girls are $3M.

Of course, not a lot of those are actually going to be sold at retail price--Amazon has it at around $48, I think. But Top Shelf's share is going to be a fraction of the retail price, regardless of what the distributor and retailer markup ends up being, and that fraction is on the order of 40%, so that's $1.2M Top Shelf can book this year.

From the same link, pre-production costs (including advances and fixed printing costs) plus half the printing bill come to $350K. No way of knowing how that breaks down. Guessing that the other half of the printing bill is half that number, and guessing that shipping costs make another 50%, that's a total production cost of $875K, or net income of $325K to be split between royalties and publisher. Not too shabby, but Alan and Melinda aren't going to be heating the hot tub with pound notes.

Still, there's probably plenty of celebrating going on.
