I go back and forth on this. I feel that the Unknown Rebel of the Tianamen Square protests deserves a special place in the history of political protest and social activism, and somehow calling him "Tank Man" tends to trivialize that.
On the other hand, if I did what he did, I'd want a nifty superhero-type name, like, say "Tank Man."
(Btw, it turns out the entire PBS Tank Man docutmentary is viewable online.)
