Saturday is the second Saturday of the month, so once again some Chicago Curmudgeons will be meeting up to eat lunch and possibly play trivia. Manny's Deli downtown, at 1 p.m.

I'm looking forward to it, as always. Do we have any high-profile guests on tap for this month? Last month Jason offered a warm invitation to Stan Lee and then even sweetened the pot by adding a free knish to the mix. Stan wasn't able to make it (and his cell phone must've been in the shop, because I know he would've phoned in his regrets if he could've), but we had a great time anyway.
Does anybody know what Paul Levitz is up to this weekend? Paul, if you'd like to drop by, put your feet up, and join us, the chocolate phosphate's on me. And if you're not available, maybe you can send Bob Wayne. The offer's the same if he joins us.
You know, there are actual comic book guys who live in Chicago. You could invite them.
(Aren't Mike Gold and John Ostrander Chicagoans? And I'm pretty sure Alex Ross is a Chicagoan.)
Hey, if Alex Ross or John Ostrander wants to come by, Jason will happily buy them a knish.
Gold and Ostrander are no longer in Chicago. Alex Ross is still local, though. And he's got an open invitation to join us, too.
If Alex Ross shows up, I will buy him a knish.
If Jill Thompson shows up, I will buy her a bowl of matzoh ball soup.
If Brian Azzarello shows up, I will buy him a bottle of Green River soda.
If Geoff Darrow shows up, I will buy him a potato pancake.
Other Chicago area professionals should feel free to contact me regarding the extent to which I am willing to subsidize their lunches. I am open to negotiation and substitutions (so Brian -- if you're really not a fan of Green River, don't let that be an obstacle. I'm willing to work with you).
Hey, buy my plane ticket and I'll cover my own lunch -- and put on a floor show!
Hey, Chris!
For ethical reasons, I can't pitch in for the ticket, but if you spring for your own plane fare, I'll pick up the tab for the full sandwich of your choice--corned beef, pastrami, turkey, a patty of some mass of vegetable protein or whatever--anything you want. Hope to see you there!
What ethical reasons, Doug? You can't support the oppressive airline industry?
It's more of a self-help ethic, really--he can buy his own ticket.
And there's still time to book! It's more than 24 hours until we get together.
Actually I can't -- but will entertain for air fare. :-)
