The New York Times Book section has an obit on the greatest living American author as of yesterday. (Hmm, who has the torch now? I would say Philip Roth, Thomas Pychon or Toni Morrison. )

(Yes, the French are less pretentious and self-indulgent than Roth or Pynchon.)

(And Toni Morrisonis so self-indulgent that she makes Philip Roth look like Shel Silverstein. I do think she's sincere, though, and she actually has her Nobel Prize in hand.)
