Here's this week's run-down
Suicide Squad 5 -- I missed this one last week. Fun stuff, very much in the vein of classic Ostrander Suicide Squad.
Justice League 17 -- Instead of the Dwayne McDuffie goodness I signed on for, we get Alan Burnett doing set-up for Salvation Run. Not a terrible comic, but not particlarly good either. There is also a short backup by McDuffie laying out a amystery about Vixen's powers.
Groo: Hell on Earth 3 -- Groo does what Groo does best, which is make me laugh. This comic has the exact same jokes as every other Groo comic (this time, they're wrapped around a thinly veiled parody of the last 8 years in U.S. politics and environmental policy), but the jokes still work, so why mess with success?
Angel: After the Fall 3 -- The story is pretty good; the art is pretty bad. I was a big fana of the TV series, and this is a solid continuation. This issue also features a shocking surprise ending.
Amazing Spider-Girl 16 -- Another solid issue in the tradition of DeFalco's 80s Spider-Man stuff. Spider-Girl battles the Mindworm (a villain from Conway's run on Spider-Man), the Black Tarantula (a villain from DeFalco's 90s Spider-Man run), Deadspot (an all new villain), and the Hobgoblin (oh, come on -- everyone knows him). This book continues to satisfy.
Umbrella Academy 5 -- Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba really put together a cool series. I'm not even going to try to explain this one, but here's the upshot: if you haven't been reading Umbrella Academy, do yourself a favor and check it out.
So what did you read this week?

I made a dent in my collections backlog this week.
Blackgas - nice, bleak zombie story
Criminal: Lawless v2 - Brubaker & Phillips firing on all cylinders. An acceptable successor to Sleeper.
Way of the Rat: Haunted Zhumar v3 - I am the market for the Checker CrossGen collections, as that is how I was collecting those series when the company folded. Nice nostalgia trip.
Nextwave: I Kick Your Face v2 - This was such a fun book. I miss it lots.
NYC Mech: Beta Love v2 - Thinks it is hipper than it really is. Just ok.
Beyond! - Cookie-cutter superheroes. Ok, but nothing exceptional. Will likely sell it.
Welcome to Tranquility v1 - Murder mystery with geriatric superheroes. It's Watchmen-lite. :-) Decent enough with a few nice ideas sprinkled here and there. I'd buy a second volume.
Monster v12 - Suspenseful with a richly woven tapestry of characters. Excellent.
