This week, we here at Sunday Song Lyric Central had planned to showcase the Acadamey Award Winning Three 6 Mafia song "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp." But then we got an angry letter from Hillary Rodham Clinton demanding that we apologize, resign from our post, and apologize some more. So instead, we're featuring the as-heard-at-Clinton-rallies Tom Petty song "American Girl."
How painful it must be for her that the Democratic nomination is so close, yet still so far out of reach.
American Girl
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Well she was an american girl
Raised on promises
She couldnt help thinkin that there
Was a little more to life
Somewhere else
After all it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
Yeah, an d if she had to die
Tryin she had one little promise
She was gonna keep
Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night
She was an american girl
It was kind of cold that night
She stood alone on her balcony
She could the cars roll by
Out on 441
Like waves crashin in the beach
And for one desperate moment there
He crept back in her memory
God its so painful
Something thats so close
And still so far out of reach
Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night
She was an american girl

Jason, just to clarify, the Hillary demands we've seen at Curmudgeons HQ are not that you should necessarily be fired but that a temporary suspension of your Curmudgeons privileges is not enough. Presumably that means you can hold onto your position but be permanently suspended from it. Therefore, although you may have to turn Sunday Song Lyric over to other hands, you can rest assured that we'll do nothing the end your hefty salary or the various Curmudgeons benefits and perks to which you've become accustomed.
By the way, John Mellencamp also wrote to suggest that his songs not be used in Sunday Song Lyric outside of their original context. Bruce Springsteen's similar request from 24 years ago remains in affect.
To make this conversation a bit more comicscentric, is David Shuster related to Joe?
