Yeah, it's probably be said before, but y'know, looking at how Secret Invasion #1 appears to be setting up to be another hero-fights-hero event, or at least hero-fights-"hero" event, I have this thought:
Wouldn't it be cool if there was a big giant crossover when all the heroes teamed up to fight all the villains?
I'm thinking that it would make a lot better superhero comics if the events of the last few years were the result of an Illuminati-like villain gang (Doctor Doom, Leader, Magneto, etc.) manipulating things so that the heroes wasted all their efforts and weakened themselves fighting each other.
Or is that too DC? It's Marvel that invented the heroes meet, they fight cliche (although Bendis seems to have forgotten the concluding "they team up" step). And their top villains tend to be sociopaths. DC's heroes get along a lot better, and so do their villains.

You mean, Acts of Vengeance 2?
I never read AoV. How was it?
Acts of Vengeance? Some was pretty good. The concept was sound, anyway -- Loki had the villains switch up, and attack OTHER heroes, not their usual opponents.
I remember Magneto imprisoning Red Skull in a hole in the ground with bottled water (and nothing else) due to the latter's actions in WWII, that really stands out.
It wasn't bad, and it wasn't supremely overhyped, although the 'Net wasn't around in nearly the same capacity, either.
Take it and run.
Hey, they did have a hero vs. bad guy event...they called it Annihilation. Heck, even BAD guys joined the good guys to fight even worse guys (how often do Galactus and Skrulls team up with the good guys). How cool is that? Granted, that was only the first one. Now with the new series, Heroes are compromised and made to do bad things but at least the ADMIT it is good guys being forced to do bad things. The Nova run where he was "bad" was great, especially his fight to free himself of that. Awesome. Anyway, back onto the howling.

Are you sure you mean Bendis? 'Twas Millar who wrote Civil War. World War Hulk was by Greg Pak. Those are the two hero-vs-hero events of recent past. Bendis is doing Secret Invasion which, whatever you may think, cannot possibly be accused of forgetting the concluding step.
At least, not yet, but I suspect the only way this story can possibly end is by ALL of the heroes teaming up to fight the villains. And, unlike the two previously mentioned events, SI has obvious, clearly identifiable villains. (Well, not per se, given who those villains are, but you know what I mean.)
AoV was like many of those kind of crossovers...it all depends on the writer. As Earl said, Gruenwald did some great Magneto stuff there (I have one of the original pages on my wall). Peter David had the Hulk ridiculing the idea: If the villain has never fought the hero before, yes, the hero won't be familiar with the villain, but vice versa is true. Why not say Ok, team of villains. Let's go kill Spider-Man. Now, Let's go kill the Hulk...and so on..
