A good starting point for compliance tests:
This is the place to discuss the new Safari Browser and maybe compare it to Netscape and IE. We have only the highest hopes for this piece of software.
How can YOu set the sizing(zoom) option in a safari window? current window reduces instead of expanding, and the reverse happens with the next click. manual sizing increases the window but the page content remains the same .
I find it difficult to transfer bookmarks from may iMac to ma laptop-
Jakob: I have seen a number of tools on versiontracker.com for transferring bookmarks and I've seen an article on MacOSXhints.com on how to use backup to transfer them via .Mac I'd start with the article and also search versiontracker for 'safari' to see what you can do. Salman: I'm not an expert and that's not the behavior I'm seeing. Can you send me a link? I can tell you what I see. I am currently using version 51 of Safari.
i loved safari right up until the time it refused to startup. soon after the icon starts bouncing and before anything shows up on the screen i get the "application has unexpectedly quit" message. i've re -started and redownloaded/installed safari...still no good ..any ideas?? i'm running 10.2.3 on an 800 mhz i mac with 768 meg ram...and no aftermarket software to speak of.
First thing: if you haver version 48 (the first release), get version 51 (1/10/03) from the Safari page. Second: start the Terminal Utility and type ls -la /tmp. It should say something like: lrwxrwxr-t 1 root admin 11 Jan 20 20:02 /tmp -> private/tmp in response. If it doesn't it's a bug in Safari (48) that can cause a problem. Third:in the finder go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete (or move) com.apple.Safari.plist Fourth: Go to the apple menu and select "About the Mac" Click the "More Info..." button. Select the "Logs" Tab and open the Safari.crash.log (if it's visible). If it's crashed a lot, there are could be a lot of logs, maybe mostly identical. The interesting one will be the one that is just before it started crashing on startup. If you can tell what it was doing, you may be able to figure out what's wrong. If not, you can send it to Apple.
Thanks Michael!
Salman Resizing is simple... Command + larger Santa
Hi, I have clean installed, I have reset my PRAM, I have tried everything listed above. I believe I have Safari build 60, but when i tried typing "ls -la /temp" in the terminal, I didnt get the expected return: unfortunately I have deleted my plist before seeing your post, so every listing in my crash log was a filed attempt - I dont have a record of the last time I was successful. please help! I think safari is nice and would much prefer it to IE. thanks
Actually, it's /tmp. If you type ls -la /tmp and get no such file or directory, you should type This will Another thing to try is running the apple disk utility from the applications/utilities folder, select your hard drive, and the First Aid Tab. You want to Verify Disk Permission and then repair them. That's just general good maintenance, but it may help here. Hope one of these suggestions helps.
thanks, i was spelling the unix command incorrectly. i was able to get the proper file returned. i tried the disk utility, but have also used norton disk doctor just to check everything out - all seems fine but still safari wont run anymore. :( thanks for your help - if you think of anything else, let me know!!
I have the same problem with Safari. Crash on start-up. Tried everything listed and more. Nothing works. The strange thing is that it worked fine at first...
Slushy and Arthur: The only thing I can think of is to try to log in as a different user and see if it's still broken. Create another user if you have to. If it works, then you want to look at things like permissions or startup items, or preferences. If it doesn't, you want to look at things like the cache or installed haxies or other system-wide issues. We run it on 3 machines and have no troubles. If you can try Omni-web 4.5SP, you can see if it's a Webcore rendering problem or a Safari problem. And if there is an apple store near you, you might want to ask them if you can bring it in and have them look at it. Good luck guys!
I want to select certain IE bookmaks to remain unactivated by safari When I access email through MSN messenger it activates through safari - I want it Thanx for any help
Can I selectively prevent safari from opening certain IE bookmarks? I want MSN messenger email to activate solely with IE but it keeps popping up using safari. Keep it simple I'm a bit of a novice- Thanx
Looks like they're not going to include IE as a seperate download anymore! Only by buying the LONGHORN operating system will you get a new IE. This makes Apple's move to it's own browser seem precient!
I removed my plist file but Safari is still crashing on startup. It doesn't happen under other user accounts, just mine. Any thoughts? I'd really like to get it back. Thanks ... -Robert-
I had a similar "Safari crashes on startup" issue. With the help of a friend at Apple, it was determined that the history.plist file was trash. I threw it away and everything was fine. Path to the history.plist file is [username]/Library/Safari/History.plist
I was having the same Safari crashing problem, trashing the history.plist worked for me as well, none of the other solutions worked. i am using Safari 1.0 (v85)
Hey there my Safari 1.0 v85 is unstable since this morning... I tried all the above, trashing the history.plist, and the com.apple.safari.plist... Safari opens, then crashes erratically, usually when I click on a link... my log shows the code below. I copy/paste it, if one of you is able to translate that into non-tech hints, it'll help ! thanks Yogix Date/Time: 2003-09-18 12:48:52 +0200 Command: Safari Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Thread 0 Crashed:
