I'm talking about "Blackout," of course.
Overlooked, I think, in the midst of everyone clapping New Yorkers on the back for not acting like Visigoths, is the disturbing news that both Canada and the United States are claiming the whole thing started on the other's side of the border.
"The source is an outage in a northeastern United States power plant," said [Canadian defense minister] McCallum's spokesman Shane Diaczuk.
In the U.S., officials were looking at a power transmission problem from Canada as the most likely cause of the outage, said a spokeswoman for New York Gov. George Pataki.
Uh oh, you know where this is going don't you?
"Hello, Domino's? I'd like a large, thin crust with sausage and Freedom bacon, please."
And our military is already stretched so thin.
"Our best understanding right now is that whatever did happen to start these cascading outages began in Canada," said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.
But many Canadians took the outage with good humor. "I heard someone say it was like 9/11 without the terror," said Lynn Bevan, a human rights lawyer in Toronto.
My favorite soundbite was some outraged Canadian politician saying, "when was the last time the U.S. accepted responsibility for anything?" Hmmm. Ok, on behalf of the U.S., I accept responsibility for you not being invaded recently. Shmuck.
24-hour news will be the death of us all someday... some politician, making up some half-informed but entertaining soundbite will get some missle launched at us. Who knows, maybe South Park will prove prophetic and Saddam will lead hordes of Canadian shock troops over the border obliterating the Great Satan Infidel Capitalist Pig Dogs.
But that's not what I was going to write about. I was going to write about The Scorpions.
I bought Blackout solely because of its cover. I'd never even heard the band, but I loved the artwork. I'd seen the artist featured in Omni mag several times. Ended up being one of my favorite high school albums.
hahaha .. you know, when I was watching the news I was thinking the same thing.
They were saying "and here you see the people are in much better spirits than with the last crisis they had to deal with"
ummmmmmmmmm .. YEAH - because this time people aren't stuck in a collapsing building and jumping out windows ....
Idiots ...
