It saddens me to note that no one else seems to be commemorating the 73rd birthday of actor, author, horse breeder, French speaker, vegetarian, and the original (and still the best) captain of NCC-1701: William Shatner. It's not too late, though, as there are still a variety of ways for everyone to celebrate their inner Kirk:
+ Load up on Star Trek trivia at StarTrek.com. Don't get caught by co-workers or friends, however, as you may never live it down.
+ Read the editorial reviews for Shatner's Tek series at Amazon. Just don't read the actual books.
+ Head over to Shatner's official website and get the straight poop on the man himself. It doesn't hurt that daughter Lisabeth is quite the babe.
+ Repent your heathen ways and convert to the First Church of Shatnerology.
+ Relive Kirk's greatest moment.
Happy Shatner Day, everyone!
So...that fat-cat Shat got a plot as a rat who bought a lot of scat and got caught?
Drat, but his brat's hot.
I still remember him fondly as "The Big Giant Head" from 3rd Rock, wherein his first episode, after he gets off the plane, he mentions to Dick Solomon that his plane was delayed because there was a man out on the wing. A reference to his appearance on the Twilight Zone, a role reprised by John Lithgow, who playing Solomon, said "That happened to me too!"
I also like Richard Moll's send-up of him on one episode of "Night Court" where he was pondering getting a toupee for the first time, and he just had to have the "Shatner 2000", which was a rug complete with pointy sideburns.
Gah, so it was! Oddly enough I was thinking that as I typed it, but somehow that word got lost between my mind and the keyboard.
Instead of saying some Hail Marys, I'll go look at the "Khan" moment a few more times to redeem myself!
Not so ironically, Brandonio, the very episode of 3rd Rock of which you spoke aired this evening. Coincidence? I think not.
Iiiiinteresting...
I was going to mention his role on The Practice but someone beat me to it.
Damn. Asleep at the wheel again!
Hey, the Shat got a role on the Practice, which appeared for the first time last night. Coincidnce? I think not.
