"The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me."

John Vernon, best known to movie fans the world over as Maynard Boyle (Charlie Varrick), Fletcher (The Outlaw Josey Wales), and Dean Vernon Wormer (Animal House), has passed away. I guess you could say he's on the ultimate secret probation.

So raise a brew to the guy who also appeared in Chained Heat, Ernest Goes to Camp, and I'm Gonna Git You Sucka.

It don't cost nothin'.

UPDATE: As if that wasn't enough, Ossie Davis - who capped a distinguished 50-year career by playing JFK in Bubba Ho-Tep - has also passed away.

And Point Blank! His dive (assisted by Lee Marvin) from the penthouse deserves another toast.

And don't forget his turn as maniacal Officer Mooney in Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

I'm pouring a 40-z on the curb.

As well as loads of voice work on cartoons.

Alas, Dean Wormer. I knew him well Bluto, a man of infinite jest. We will not see his like again.

Will Mark Metcalf throw himself on the funeral pyre?

I always thought John Vernon was a much better actor than the typical roles he landed showed him to be. I loved listening to him speak with an American accent because every now and then his Irish brogue would peak through.
