"All this drinking, violence, destruction of property...are these the things we think of when we think of the Irish?"

This is pretty cool (and timely, go figure): an annotated lyrics page for songs of the Pogues and Shane MacGowan (via Metafilter).

I've spent far too much of my St. Patrick's Day there already.

"All this drinking, violence, destruction of property...are these the things we think of when we think of the Irish?" Throw in vicious sectarian violence and you've got the whole story!

You should check out the "If I should fall from grace" documentary...it's a wee bit depressing but required viewing for Pogues fans.

I know this wasn't the focal point of your review but when you say the little girl "pops back up to narf a teenager" I all of a sudden imagined Pinky popping up out of the water and yelling "NARF!".

I all of a sudden imagined Pinky popping up out of the water and yelling "NARF!".

That would have been much more entertaining.
