Got this e-mail last night:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your enquiry below. However, we are unable to provide you with a screener for our motion picture "Godzilla Final Wars" for review purposes.
Sincerely,
[some dude from Toho]
Now I just have to imagine him snickering with his friends over my clumsy attempt to get a jump on the July 4 premiere.
Wait, is this coming to Houston? Or DVD? My son is a HUGE Godzilla fan and he's been asking me when this thing is coming out for almost a year.
Just to give you an idea as to how much of a fan he is, he regularly recreates scenes from the movies using Godzilla: Save The Earth video game- down to the city and the monsters involved. The first time I saw it, it brought a tear to my eye....
I read somewhere that it was premiering in LA over the July 4th weekend, but the IMDb says it's actually bowed on November 29 of last year.
I wouldn't count on an American release, but look for a DVD some time later this year/beginning of next.
Reviews have been...mixed. I don't know who you are, or how old your son is, but Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is out-freaking-standing, and available on DVD.
The only reason I bring up your son's age is that Godzilla is evil in GMK, and does Bad Things.
Oops, I guess I didn't 'sign in' in that last post. It's me, Mike Dunn.
And yes, we own GMK. It's one of the movies that Griffin re-enacts with the video game. In fact, he pretends he's Baragon all the time and leaps around all over the house.
From everything I've heard about the film, it might be a blessing.
Far be it for me to knock a movie starring the Big G, but I've heard this one makes the 1970s flicks (you know, the ones that gave us "Godzilla as Michael Flatley" and "flying Godzilla") seem like Shakespeare.
