Ready, set...Knit

Just saw this show listed on the Continental Club website:

THURSDAY
August 25
THE KNITTERS
with DAVE ALVIN, JOHN DOE, EXENE, D J BONEBREAK, JONNY RAY BARTELL
+ special guest PHRANC opening the show

Showtime 9pm

Phranc? Whatever.

I have to say that this sounds like a jim-dandy of a show. For those not up to speed, the Knitters were the country music side project comprising the members of X and ex-Blaster Dave Alvin. I can think of worse ways to spend a summer evening than throwing back a few Lone Stars and hearing "Call of the Wreckin' Ball" (and maybe a few X covers as well) in person.

Phranc? Fun show, but opening for the Knitters?

Of course, last time I saw her she was opening for the Pogues, and it was my 21st birthday at Numbers, so it's been a while. Maybe she's country now, but she wasn't then.

Dave Alvin did one of my favorite albums of the last few years - "Ashgrove." Awesome musician, he & his band put on a great show too. (They're no Grateful Dead, but then again few can be...) ;-)

Should be a great show.

matt's chomping at the bit to see this show over here. sad that now we have to either go to shows separately or hire a sitter in order to stay cool.
