The stars at night, are big and bright...

National fucking Champions, baby:

Thirty six years in waiting. Texas won tonight's Rose Bowl and the national championship in a spectacular 41-38 comeback win over USC.

Quarterback Vince Young was the difference-maker, scoring the winning touchdown in the dying seconds en route to a 200-yard rushing performance. With nineteen seconds on the clock, Young made a 9-yard dash count and added the two-play for good measure to seal the win.

I admit, I didn't have a lot of hope about the outcome of this game. I am happy to say I was amazingly wrong. Here's hoping Vince Young stays another year, and that I have at least that long to rub it in to my OU and A&M friends.

Hook 'em Horns.

Best game ever. Damn I'm drained. Thank you Longhorns.

You'll be able to enjoy VY every NFL season when the Texans take him in the draft.

Hook em horns! (I hate USC and Leinart is a lil bitch)

Great freaking game. Hats off to the Horns.

Great game, much closer than any Superbowl I can remember watching, and the underdog pulls it off. Good stuff.

Congrats to you and your 'Horns, who proved me and many other doubters wrong.

....guess you forgot about Super Bowls 38 (Vinatieri, Brady), 36 (Brady's drive, Vinatieri kick), 34 (Mason tackled two feet from the goal line on the last play of the game). :-)

That said, it was the best title game since OSU/Miami, and VY's performance was likely the best ever in a title game.

Congrats to the Horns. what a team

I will admit that I was watching Nanny 911 and Project Runway instead of football. I'm just that kind of girl (I will note that there was no small amount of sulking in our house that we had to unwillingly sacrifice Lost to something so dumb as football). But I did watch about 20 seconds of the final 30 seconds of the game, the part where Jesus Christ Himself -- I mean, Vince Young -- scored that last touchdown.

I'm bitter. Seriously, they act like Young is the fucking second coming in this town. In my eyes he's just a big titty baby who can't handle coming in second for the Heisman. And also can't be bothered to speak with any sort of grammatical coherence ("The tears haven't came yet, but..."), despite the fact that he is a university student.

Congratulations you bastard! Unbelievably how USC gave it away (can you say Reggie Bush throwing the damn ball away on the 10?) and how UT capitalized on it. My hat is off to Vince Young. Once USC was stopped on 4th, I knew it was over. They hadn't been able to stop him all night. Here goes my eating crow:

The Unversity of Texas football team is the National Champion! The Unversity of Texas football team is the National Champion! The Unversity of Texas football team is the National Champion! The Unversity of Texas football team is the National Champion!

Now I am going to go weep maroon and pray that we can still get some decent recruits next year.

On a related note. How badly to you think Leinhart's performance and the loss is going to hurt him in the NFL draft? If he had gone to the NFL last year after being the MVP and his stellar performance, I think he would have been a top pick if not the top pick. Now with Reggie Bush and whoever else is tossing their hat in the ring (Reggie McNeal and possibly VY) I don't think he will be drafted as high as last year. Also, do you think this will factor into VY's decision to go into the draft this year?

Seadogs, there is some speculation that Leinhart had some lingering injury issues last year and needed another year of rehab before entering the draft. If healthy, it would have been smart to enter the supplemental draft. But he didn't, and had very little (if any) necessary course work to complete in order to get his degree. So that was curious, to say the least.

That said, Reggie Bush is the consensus #1 pick, regardless. Not sure if the Texans will take him or not, as Dom. Davis is an able RB. But they might draft Bush then trade him, or trade down from the #1 pick and try to get a lower 1st round pick that nets them the top O-line talent, as well as something extra in the 2nd or 3rd round. Who knows.

Leinhart is a good QB for some teams to draft, but the Texans and 49ers both recently went for their franchise QB in the last couple years. The Packers got Aaron Rodgers last year and the Giants have Eli Manning. With likely free agent QB such as Billy Volek (Titans) and Josh McCown (Cardinals), likely testing the markets, and perhaps Matt Schaub (Falcons) and David Garrard (Jags) getting traded to start for another team, this year's NFL draft may not see a big run on rookie QBs such that Leinhart commands a top 1st round pick. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Darrell Royal! Great game, exciting with a little bit of ego...just a little. Fun to watch! Congrats Horns or as y'all say Hook 'em!
I am dissapointed in the lack of response/spirit from Lorghorn fans though, I mean, there have been no reports of looting, burning of cars, or rape in celebration...whassup wi'dat? If Maryland had won... or LSU...

I'm a NY Jets fan and there's been rumblings that Leinart may be our man. I'd prefer Reggie Bush, but then again, who wouldn't.

What an incredible game. And my wife won a football pool because of the Texas win. Not for any financial gain, mind you. That would be immoral.

I don't think the problem was anything on USC's offense. I think their defense was what lost them that game.

Well, that and Vince Young has the situational awareness of Spiderman.

Great picture in the upper-right corner. This one of Will Ferrell, Vince, and Leno is kind of surreal.

I guess I must be an awesome dweeb because I read your lead in and thought:

Wow! There's a National Fucking Champion? Who? How was the judging conducted? Is there a corporate sponsor (Trojan?)? Is there just one or are they a couple? Do you win based on numerical mass or is it a question of style?

Sheeeeet. It's not fucking. It's fucking FOOTBALL. OH, alright. Hook 'em.
