Mild in the streets

Maybe I'm reading too much into early '80s punk lyrics, but this saucy couplet by the Circle Jerks has been bugging me for a while:

'64 Valiant, handful of valium
Couple of beers really do me right

How the hell does that equate to "Wild in the Streets?" Wouldn't it be more like "Dozing at the Stoplight?" "Prone on the Futon?"

Pete, have you been channeling the spirit of Alistair Cooke again?

Seriously, you can't expect unassailable lyrical imagery from the likes of the Circle Jerks. Caught a show of theirs back in '95 and they (unlike myself) were sober at the time. From what I'm told, that was a significant departure from their performances the decade prior.

You've obviously never driven a '64 Valiant. Push Button Trans, loose steering with a square wheel, PLUS suspension of doom. Beer and valium wouldn't be able to calm yer nerves driving down Central Exp..
