"Smithers, have the Rolling Stones killed."

I'm not one for begging on my blog, but I might have to reconsider and ask for the roughly $300 I'd need for a round-trip ticket to experience musical nirvana:

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS DATES:
Wed Oct 25
St. Louis, MO - Mississippi Nights w/The Drams

The Drams, in case you didn't know by now, are the band formed by Brent, Jess, and Tony after the break-up of Slobberbone, AKA my favorite band of all time. To see them with the DBTs - my current favorite band - would be, well, it'd be something.

Any takers? I've got tons of family in St. Louis, and one in particular who's pretty high up at Anheuser-Busch, so maybe we could work out an exchange. At least until these assholes deign to make a stop in Houston (merely the fourth largest city in the freaking country).

Nah, just kidding. I know none of you drink Budweiser.

Pete: the family I and went to a free concert in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park this Sunday. Aside from the thick fog of THC that hung over the various five stages, and the predicable mob of hippies, you’d have loved the show. DBT, North Mississipi All-Stars, Emmylou Harris, to name a few, plus a bunch of bluegrass. And aside from the random idiots who left their dogs off leash, it was a very kid-friendly event. We even ran into a few people who we met when we first moved to Houston, which was unexpected. Beautiful day out too, which was cool because the Blue Angels were performing in the SF skies yesterday, which was a real treat, especially for those who were trippin’.

The only downside was that they didn’t sell any beer.

I saw a DBT-Slobberbone show at Stubb’s indoor stage back in 2001 or 2002. Actually, it was my first DBT experience… I was there for Slobberbone, having seen them plenty of times in Denton and curious to see what Austin thought of them. Utterly fantastic show. The two bands swapped members all night, and at the end they were all up there playing together. Without a doubt, one of the most energetic and memorable shows I’ve ever been to. Needless to say, I’ve been hooked on DBT ever since.

“The two bands swapped members all night, and at the end they were all up there playing together.”
Maybe it’s because it’s so damn early, but that sentence made me giggle.

I saw the the DTB at the Meridian two years ago. Great show. I’ve seen them twice since then (Lollapalooza and ACL last year). I keep on checking to see when they’ll be back this way again.
