Saw Disturbia last night. All told, a pretty entertaining - if wholly predictable - suspense flick. The script isn't bad, while Shia LaBoeuf and David Morse are mostly watchable. I also like seeing Carrie-Anne "Trinity" Moss playing the mom.
But make no mistake, it may not be an "official" remake of Hitchcock's Rear Window (only because neither Salton Sea and The Shield director DJ Caruso nor youthful writers Chris Landon and Carl Ellsworth have bothered to admit it), but...it is. Just substitute "ankle bracelet" for "wheelchair" and replace Raymond Burr with David Morse.
What the hell, if you're going to rip someone off, might as well rip off the best.
Although DISTURBIA looks like a fun suspense flick, I highly doubt there’s any innuendo or commentary about society hiding under it’s surface.
It’s a wholly incisive look at the phenomenon of hot teenaged neighbors.
Can’t way to see the Hitchcockian homages in Michael Bay’s THE BIRDS
All that avian fury in slow motion…I’m buying my tickets now.
Wait a minute. There’s actually been doubt or coyness about this? C’mon. It’s so obviously Rear Window that aliens observing from space who can’t speak English can tell it’s Rear Window.
My only question is who’s playing the Grace Kelly role? ‘Cause that was the role where I first saw her, and I could not imagine a more exquisitely beautiful face than hers.

As best as I can tell, the filmmakers are making a concerted effort not to mention the original.

A quasi-Jessica Biel named Sarah Roemer.
I’m looing forward to the film, but the “problem” with people remaking these things and updating them is (or paying homage), they totally, totally miss all the subtext. Can’t way to see the Hitchcockian homages in Michael Bay’s THE BIRDS…that M-fer. I may have to go back on my love of ARMAGEDDON for that.
