I have a few observations about HBO's recent lineup of Sunday evening programming:
1. I'm done with John from Cincinnati. Maybe one day they'll get past the pseudo-philosophical crap, Rebecca de Mornay's shrill harpy character, and the inability of the kid playing Shaun to act his way out of a paper bag, but five episodes (half a season) is more than enough, thanks. And thanks to you, David Milch, for quitting Deadwood in order to bring it to us.
2. Lloyd (Rex Lee) makes every episode of Entourage he's on 1000% better, and tonight's was no exception, as he added the perfect element of swish to Ari's plot to sabotage Josh Weinstein. "Woo woo," indeed.
3. I liked Flight of the Conchords better when it was called Tenacious D and was actually funny.
When the hell does season five of The Wire start again?
I feel the same way you do about John from Cincinnati, but I bugged out on it three episodes back. Rebecca DeMornay isn’t acting, she’s gnawing on scenery.
I feel the same way you do about Rex Lee; after he said “woo woo!” I turned to Matt and said, “I’m so glad he’s on this show!” He counteracts the Kevin Dillon effect.
I do disrespectfully disagree with your assessment of Flight of the Conchords, but I’ve been a fan of their “standup” for a while now. I never did think Tenacious D was funny.
Oh, and I won’t make it to Houston for Potlikker this weekend after all; I forgot to register in time, so I’ll be hunkering down with Harry Potter 7 while Matt goes to Emo’s that night.
I agree about John From Cinci…what the hell is that show ABOUT!?!?! I watched the first 2 episodes and it made no sense. Plus, it’s not intriguing. I don’t get it.
This weird second season season of ENTOURAGE might be the best one yet.
I never though Tenacious D was funny and I really like FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS. I think it’ll find it’s feet and get better.
When’s HEROES and LOST back on? Borrrring TV out there these days….
Maybe it’s all the time I spent with shoestring budget indie folk bands, but the one ConChords episode I watched 20 minutes of didn’t have a single bit of funny in it and the songs sucked. Maybe I saw the suck episode. I did know someone whose first exposure to South Park was an “all Terrence and Phillip” episode.
I was more intrigued by Desperate Polygynists, but not enough to actually plan to watch it.
You nailed that, dude.
And if I have to sit through another episode of Big Love waiting for Entourage, I’m going out and getting a new wife.
I couldn’t disagree more about Flight of the Conchords. It may be one of the funniest shows I’ve seen on television in the last ten years.
Give it another chance and don’t look at it through Jack Black poisoned shades.
I originally was unimpressed by Conchords, but this segment turned me around:

Trust me.
Too far away: HBO has it set for the first quarter of 2008, according to tvguide.com.
