So...The Dark Knight...I can't lie, I thought it was outstanding. I won't go so far as to say it was a "masterpiece," but it's easily at the top of my list of favorite superhero flicks.
The review won't be up until tomorrow morning, but I can go ahead an give you the link anyway. Here it is. ****1/2 stars.
On an unrelated note, I'd like to point out that AOL now owns indieWIRE as well as Cinematical and the Moviefone sites, leaving Film Threat as one of the last non-corporate movie web spots around.
Just sayin'.
Great, that means Film Threat is so bad, even AOL won’t buy us….sooper.
OK, Pete, I was suspicious when you said that “Hulk” was better than “Iron Man”, and now you’re saying it again. Are you just easily impressed?
Then I saw it.
Damn, that was a fine movie. It surpassed my expectations, and had many story elements that I simply didn’t expect. Terrific performance by Ledger, in the best-written Joker we’ve ever seen on film. And it put Marvel’s summer slate in its place.
So maybe you do know what you’re talking about. At least a little.
HULK was not better than IRON MAN in pretty much any way, shape or form. HULK was better than THE INCREDIBLE HULK but still goes to show the Hulk is not a movie-friendly character. You have to grow to feel bad for Bruce Banner like you did when Bill Bixby played him and I didn’t feel bad for Ed Norton in the least. A potentially great TV show rehash, sure. A “great” movie….nay say I. Nay. Good though.
“The Incredible Hulk” was not great. Good, sure. Great? Nah.
Damn, dude, your shorts must still be stiff and chalky after typing that DARK KNIGHT review. Breathe into a paper bag for a few minutes, or something.
To set everyone straight on how these things go: SPIDER-MAN is one of the finest superhero movies ever made (but so are ROBOCOP and DARKMAN). SPIDER-MAN 2 is a crappy retread of the first film. The latest HULK is fabulous, IRON MAN is unbelievably great, the Bana HULK thing was incomprehensibly stupid, BLADE was a pretty solid movie while BLADE 2 (despite its director, whom I understand every fanboy wanting to blow, but still, everyone screws the pooch sometimes, even if they do have a really cool Spanish name) was nearly as incomprehensibly stupid as the first HULK movie, both of the first two X-MEN films rocked… aaaaaaand… the first HELLBOY rocks pretty hard, too, while the second is merely cool, but not, y’know, ultracool.
However, I haven’t seen THE DARK KNIGHT yet.
But will.
Great review — can’t wait to see the movie on Sunday! But what does “clowning geriatrics” mean? Did you just verb a plural noun? Impressive.
