Lennon-ism

Posted by pete at December 10, 2008 12:21 PM

I like Christmas. Okay, not really, but I do like one aspect of it, and that's how the music of the season offers further support for my argument that John Lennon was superior to Paul McCartney.

Exhibit A - "Happy Xmas (War is Over)"

Yoko's atonal presence is negated by Phil Spector's production and the Harlem Community Choir, and besides that the anti-war message is in keeping with the spirit of the holiday itself.

Exhibit B - "Wonderful Christmastime"

The droning synth part perfectly accompanies inspired lyrics like "The spirit's up," "The party's on," and "Ding dong ding dong ooohh." All courtesy of the guy who tried to reverse the words "Lennon McCartney" in the credits for "Why Don't We Do it in the Road?"

Despite Yoko’s lousy voice and John’s sanctimonious overtones……..Lennon in a landslide. The world indeed deserved better, Sir Paul.

I have determined that Paul McCartney is carcinogenic. His first wife died from cancer, George Harrison died from a brain tumor. As far as I know, Ringo keeps his distance and is still going strong. If Lennon hadn’t been shot, Paul probably would have given him cancer as well.

Don’t forget that the great Swami Clang died of prostate cancer in 1982! That does it, Doctor McCartney has left Earth for Mars, and now the Blue Meanies are invading Afghanistan. Who Beats Down the Beatles?

Aw man - thanks so much for this! This song, in my mind, is one of the top 5 things about the holiday. Of course, getting two weeks off work is in that top 5, too. Guess where?? Truly - listening to this is wonderful.
